SPEAKER_04This side of Country Live with Trav and Kiesta. Slam a coffee, then grab another cup, and tune in Monday mornings on 95.9.
SPEAKER_05We're powered by Fix It Forward Auto Care. I tell you what, I had an exciting week last week at Fix It Forward Speedway. Got to uh interview a young man who won his first race there at the track. And lo and behold, I found out some really good information about him and what a great story he has. And we just happen to have him here on the phone. We've got Bryce Haugeberg. Morning, Bryce, how are you, my friend?
SPEAKER_02Good morning. I'm doing great. How are you guys?
SPEAKER_05No, I'm doing very well. Uh we're not gonna get to see at the races tonight. What's going on this weekend for you?
SPEAKER_02I got invited with some VIP tickets to come enjoy my first ever Wii Fest this weekend.
SPEAKER_05Hey. Congratulations. It's gonna be a good time. Uh careful. It can get you. It's a it's a good time, so make sure you you keep your head on a swivel out there. But congratulations. I I'm glad you get to go experience Wii Fest. Another thing I want to celebrate is your uh your first win at Fix It Forward Speedway last Friday. Let's get into that a little bit here, man. How did that feel?
SPEAKER_02It felt awesome. Um I've raced in Fargo all my life growing up. I started at the go-kart track when I was really young, so being able to race at the fairgrounds there has been super cool, super close to home. Lots of friends and family get to come to it. So whenever I get the chance to go and race at six and four speedway, it's a really cool and fun time.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely. What what kind of gave you the bug to want to check out racing when you were younger? Get into go-karts, and obviously once you get started, it it's hard to go back. But what what kind of bitch you when you were young that made you want to go, I want to check this out?
SPEAKER_02You know, my my family's always been car people. And I know when my dad was growing up as a kid, I know he always wanted to try and get into the racing scene, and it didn't quite work out the way he wanted it to. And I think just it was one day when I was, I want to say, eight years old. Yeah. He said, Let's go check out the go-kart track one night, and that's what we did. And the next week we had a go-kart in the shop. And we we never looked back after that. It sucked us in, and yeah, I've loved every second of it.
SPEAKER_05And the rest is history. Kind of walk us through that win you had last week. How did it feel when you knew, like, hey, I've got this thing, I'm going to get my first win here at Fix It Forward Speedway? Kind of walk us through the race and and at that point when you knew you were gonna get the W.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Um I it really kind of came as a shock to me after the the night started that we were trying new things with the car, um, little bit different setup wise that we've we haven't really tried before. So we didn't quite know how it was gonna go on Friday night. Um, and then the heat rates just was not very good for us. We were a little bit little bit out in left field. We missed uh missed the setup, but we really went to work at it for for the feature. And I can't thank Brandon Rico and those guys enough. I'm Cody, his his boy Cashton is so much help, Savannah, all those guys at top-notch motorsports have really made it awesome to drive for. And we went we went to work on both the cars, and right away the car felt amazing. And Brandon kind of showed showed where the fast line was when he got around me really early on, and I just kind of followed him and found the grip. And when I started to reel him in, I kind of told myself, Well, I got a chance to go and win this thing now, but it's gotta gotta beat the boss. And I always I always raced clean and fair, and I'd never want to get my nose in any bad position. So I really wanted to have fun with Brandon, race Brandon clean, and yeah, when I got by him there, it felt really good, and I was hoping he was behind me the whole time and we could go one and two.
SPEAKER_05That's awesome. Uh let me ask you this. What does this do for your confidence now for the rest of the race season, knowing that you got your first win at fix it forward speedway, moving forward season's not done yet. We're we're kind of coming down to the wire here, but what does this do for your confidence now? Know that you left last Friday with the W?
SPEAKER_02It's a huge confidence builder. I mean, at the beginning of the season, we weren't quite sure what our racing plans were gonna be. Yeah. We've I've raced the lightning sprints for the last six years, and we're kind of looking for a way out of that and looking to see what the next step is. So this year was kind of that transition year, and I originally had no no plans to race dirt, and Brandon had approached me about jumping into a 305, which is a little similar to a lightning sprint, but obviously it's a lot bigger, a lot more horsepower. So I thought this year was gonna be a learning curve, getting used to the car, understanding the differences, and just kind of getting my feet wet in this new class. Right. We've really taken off a lot faster than I was anticipating, which is good. So I say now for the rest of the year, it's game on. I think we can Brandon's bringing me really fast cars each week. So very cool. I think both both me and him have the have the confidence that we can go and win each race that we show up to.
SPEAKER_05That's awesome. Well, this Friday you're going to experience your first Wii Fest festival. But are we gonna see you back at Fix It Forward Speedway yet this season?
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. Yep.
SPEAKER_05Wonderful. Now, somebody also told me you've been dabbling with NASCAR. Give me the background on this.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I kind of got my feet wet in that a little bit four or five years ago, kind of right after COVID had hit. Um, when I was 18, I got the opportunity to go and fly down to Daytona, Florida, and test some cars, and that's kind of NASCAR's approval process is going and doing that um Daytona test. They do it, NASCAR holds that every January.
SPEAKER_05Right.
SPEAKER_02So I got the chance to do that. I passed, got my NASCAR license and was approved for that. And thanks to Fast Track Racing, they're located in, I believe it's Concord, in the Charlotte area of North Carolina, there where the shop is and all the cars stay. That's awesome. And so I we try to hit the couple crown jewels each year, Daytona and Teladega, with those guys, and in the past hit Elcole, Minnesota, which is the closest race for us. So it that allows a lot of friends and family and local fans to go and check that out and be able to see that race. So it's it's been really fun. It's a dream since I've been a kid, and yeah, all these opportunities I'll forever be grateful for. I've got such an amazing support system and people behind my back. Bren Cole has been one of my biggest sponsors in my racing career, and without those guys, I wouldn't be as far out as I am today.
SPEAKER_05Fantastic. So is that kind of the goal here? Is that kind of the the bar you're looking to get into? Is you want to become a regular on the NASCAR circuit?
SPEAKER_02I would say so, yeah. It's just kind of getting your foot in multiple avenues. Yeah. I just I've always wanted the chance to race cars, and if that's on dirt locally, or if that's traveling the national series and racing with NASCAR, I just want to be able to race and have the opportunities to race. So as long as I've got a foot in the door on a couple different avenues and I can still go do those things and just have fun with friends and family. It's been a really big um experience that I can share with my dad and my family and my sponsors. So building those relationships through this sport is what I love the most about it.
SPEAKER_05Fantastic. Let me ask you this. You're celebrating you won last Friday, your first win at Fix It Forward Speedway. What does celebrating look like for you? Is it out to dinner? Is there a favorite restaurant that you go to to celebrate with a nice dinner with maybe the lady in your life or your family? How d how do you celebrate something like that?
SPEAKER_02You know, we just all get together. I'm after the win on Friday, all my friends and family that were there, we all just hang out in the pits, hang out in the trailer, talk, enjoy about enjoy it. Um Evan Hendrickson is I've raced with him my whole life, so it's really cool getting to race with him and share the track with him again after a couple years now. So that's awesome. Going and celebrating with him and talking to him about the race and how he felt and just that sort of thing. I wouldn't say necessarily going out to eat, but just enjoying the company with your friends and family and celebrating.
SPEAKER_05Fantastic. Man, congratulations again. You're on a roll here, and uh, we wish you much success for the rest of the season. And you obviously have a bright career ahead of you here. Where can we find you on social media?
SPEAKER_02You can find me at Bryce Haugelberg or Bryce Haugelberg Racing on Facebook and Instagram.
SPEAKER_05Fantastic. Hey man, I appreciate you making time chatting with us here on the show. Congratulations again on that W. Enjoy Weed Fest this weekend, and we'll see you back at Fix It Ford Speedway next weekend.
